Construction Accident Severs Worker's Hand; New York Construction Accident Lawyer David Perecman Comments

A construction worker falls from a ladder and loses his hand in a construction accident on Staten Island.

NEW YORK, NY, April 17, 2011 /Health and Fitness PR News/ -- A Thursday afternoon construction accident severed the hand of a construction worker on Staten Island. The horrific New York construction accident occurred at a home at 24 Kelvin St. in Bay Terrace around 5:30 p.m., reported the New York Post.

According to sources, Steven Selva, 20, was doing outside repairs when he fell from a ladder and a power saw cut off his left hand at the wrist. It was a construction site ladder fall of approximately 20 feet.

"Falls from ladders and cutting accidents are unfortunately two common types of construction accidents in New York and elsewhere, although they're generally preventable when safe procedures are abided by," said New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman.

An experienced New York construction accident lawyer like Perecman, a former chair of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) Construction Accident committee, can ensure that construction companies take responsibility for their actions in the event of construction accidents, including on-the-job construction accidents in New York.

"Managers and supervisors have a responsibility to maintain a safe work site in New York," the construction accident lawyer explained.

A few years ago New York construction accident lawyer Perecman handled a case where a construction worker fell from a ladder. The verdict was for $15,208,168*, one of the top verdicts in 2005, according to The New York Law Journal.

Perecman, founder of the New York construction accident firm The Perecman Firm, was also honored for the third largest construction accident verdict in New York in 2010.

"Whether construction workers fall in a building, fall off a ladder, or get injured when they fall from a scaffold, we represent and help them get what they deserve", said Perecman, a New York construction accident lawyer for over 30 years.

Construction is one of the most dangerous fields to work in. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), construction workers suffered more fatal on-the-job injuries than any other single industry sector in 2009. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), falls on construction sites accounted for more than one in every five of these non-fatal injuries. Construction site falls are the most common cause of construction accident deaths.
